This fully illustrated guide to more sophisticated makeup techniques for stage and screen examines the technology of prosthetics, which involves making appliances to change an actor's physical characteristics. The author presents all the steps of aging an actor with prosthetics, and also explains how to take a life mask, make the positive and negative moulds, make foam-latex appliances, cast hands and special features such as teeth and ears, and duplicate natural features such as wrinkles and skin textures for stock use.

Excerpt from Preface by Lee Beygan

"Prosthetics is an innovative makeup process that is now being used extensively in theater, television, and films. Techniques of Three-Dimensional Makeup came about as a result of a project in one of my classes in which we aged a twenty-year-old subject to forty, then to fifty-five, and finally to seventy0five. I realized that for this time span we had to employ all the available prosthetic techniques. Demonstrating such an aging process, then, seemed an effective way to teach the fundamentals of prosthetic makeup."
